Archtop Fiber is a new fiber optic provider in the Kingston NY area. They are offering two different packages for customers that could affect your security systems connectivity.
Residential Packages
The residential packages offer amazing speeds for the price, but utilize a technology called Carrier-Grade NAT. Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT) is a type of Network Address Translation (NAT) used by broadband providers to provide internet access to their subscribers. It is designed to be scalable, reliable, and secure, making it suitable for large-scale deployments in carrier networks. CGNAT allows multiple subscribers to share a limited pool of public IPv4 addresses, conserving IP address space and delaying the need for IPv6 adoption.
Port Forwarding
If you utilize port forwarding for any service on your network, CGNAT will prevent incoming connections by design. It is recommended that you upgrade to a Business Package and get a static IP address. If you already have a Unifi Router, there are other options available such as a Virtual Private Network.
